FINDING PHONE NUMBERS ON THE NET
by Paul and Kerri Elders
The internet is the world's greatest repository of information, something like the modern equivalent of the ancient Great Library at Alexandria.
But, if you can't find what you're looking for, that information doesn't mean much. In a recent issue, we explored search engines and explained how a good search strategy can help you find general info on the internet.
This month, we'll guide you to the two best phone directories on the 'net: Switchboard and 411.
These free services let you look up any listed phone number and address, nationwide, for individuals and/or businesses.
Simply enter the required information (First and Last Name and City and State) and you'll find the number you're looking for. Not sure of an exact address for a friend or relative? Look them up in switchboard, and you'll get their address, complete with zip code.
Have a phone number on your Caller ID and want to know who the caller is? Do a reverse lookup on 411: enter the area code and phone number, and the system will let you know whose call you missed.
Happy hunting!
