NEXT ISSUE: REDISTRICTING
by Anna Crook
The interim committees have been selected, and the organizational
meeting of the Revenue and Stabilization committee held its first
meeting the middle of May.
The redistricting committe has held two
public meetings. The committee will be traveling the state during the
next few months getting public input on redistricting. This will be one
of the most import issues to be addressed during the interim.
The
decisions made on redistricting will affect all the citizens of New
Mexico for the next ten years.
The legislature will meet in special session in September to address
redistricting. Unofficially I have been told it will begin Sept. 4, and
will be in session for approximately 10 days to two weeks. The
committee will meet in Clovis June 22 at Clovis Community College. I
cannot emphasize enough the importance of everyone in Curry County
attending this very important meeting.
It will be your opportunity to
hear and have input into redistricting. I encourage everyone who can to
attend and bring a friend. We will look forward to seeing you at the
June 22 meeting!
